Construction Inclusion Week Logo

Today marks the beginning of Construction Inclusion Week (CIW), a nationally recognized event that shines a spotlight on the vital importance of inclusive behavior in the construction industry. As a proud sponsor, FTI not only acknowledges the importance of diversity and inclusion (D&I) but also passionately promotes a Culture of Care where our team members feel safe, respected, appreciated and accepted.

As an operational leader in our organization, I’ve seen first-hand how FTI’s D&I efforts are weaved into several of our strategies and initiatives. From our award-winning wellness program to our open channels for feedback and innovative ideas, FTI is at the forefront of creating a more inclusive construction industry.

Commitment & Accountability

The journey towards a more inclusive workplace begins at the top. FTI’s leadership, guided by a core purpose of providing world-class opportunities for success, sets the tone for a culture that embraces D&I. This commitment is reflected in our core values, ensuring that our workplace is not only safe, but also welcoming and respectful of diverse thoughts and backgrounds:

  • Uncompromised Focus on Keeping People SAFE.
  • REDEFINE What’s Possible.
  • Build TRUST in Everything We Do.
  • Reward Individual Results that Create Team SUCCESS.

Accountability is demonstrated through actions across all levels of the organization, with everyone contributing to team success. Our CEO, Mike Jansen, emphasizes that a safe hour is a productive hour, and the execution of projects involves the inclusion of innovation. By bringing in diverse ideas and ensuring the right people are present and engaged, FTI creates innovative solutions and project success. Prioritizing safety allows team members to confidently complete their tasks and take responsibility for their actions, enhancing productivity and building a sense of trust and security.

Belonging & Workplace Culture

At FTI, we understand that organizational culture is directly tied to feelings of belonging. When team members feel valued, they experience a sense of purpose and are more motivated to contribute. To ensure every team member feels encouraged to bring their whole self to work – mind, body and soul – we have implemented a variety of initiatives that promote belonging such as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Values Recognition Program (VRP), ACE (Advocate, Counsel, Encourage) Program, team member experience surveys, development programs, training opportunities and more. These initiatives not only benefit our team members, but they also enhance FTI’s collective creativity and problem-solving capabilities. When our team members feel valued and supported, they’re more likely to share their unique perspectives and innovative ideas.

Inclusion Starts with Us

FTI’s commitment to fostering a more diverse and inclusive construction industry is unwavering. Through comprehensive strategies and initiatives, we prioritize commitment and accountability, nurture a sense of belonging and maintain a positive and stigma-free Culture of Care. This ensures that every team member can thrive and contribute to our collective success.

As FTI highlights the importance of inclusivity this week, we are laying the groundwork for a year-round focus that resonates through all we do. Remember, inclusion starts with each one of us. I am truly proud to be part of an organization like FTI that champions diversity and inclusion, making it a fundamental pillar of our culture and success.
