Whole person health and well-being is an important aspect of FTI’s culture and takes passion, time, and teamwork to build and spread awareness. As our organization is spread throughout the country, we rely on our Wellness Champion network who have taken it upon themselves to lead the charge toward healthier lives for themselves and for their peers. These champions are team members who help inspire and empower others to prioritize their overall well-being, participate in the various wellness programs and initiatives, and serve as the boots-on-the-ground connectors to ensure the long-term success of total well-being among their peers. These Wellness Champions are vital to creating a culture of wellness.
Wellness Champions are good communicators, natural leaders and are enthusiastic about bringing people together. At FTI, we believe that these champions should have the following characteristics:
- Passionate: Team members who aspire to be champions and have enthusiasm for enhancing the culture of health and well-being within the workplace.
- Social Skills: Team members who naturally make connections with, and show compassion for, their co-workers. Champions should be easy to approach, have strong communication and leadership skills, and be looked up to by their co-workers.
- Role Model Qualities: Team members who express a personal interest in healthy lifestyles, regardless of their current health status, and are advocates for healthy behavior change.
In April of this year, we kicked off our 2023-2024 Wellness Champion program with 20 team members from across the organization in varying job roles and within each of our locations, to help drive localized engagement within our wellness program. These individuals completed an application and went through an interview process, showing their care and compassion toward helping others elevate their well-being. These team members continue to show their commitment daily to not only our wellness program, but to our organization as a whole. They have proven to be invaluable and a great resource and support network for their peers. Not only are these 20 individuals helping drive change and positive influence, but I would be remiss to not recognize the many who are also championing team member well-being, who continue to show their dedication to the health and wellness of their peers, and are therefore helping to contribute to an overall positive, supportive and caring environment.
In a world where wellness can sometimes take a back seat, Wellness Champions are our unsung heroes, tirelessly advocating for positive change in the lives of their peers and those around them. Their dedication to fostering holistic well-being serves as a reminder that we all have the power to take control of our health and make positive choices that resonate throughout our lives. Remember, you don’t need a special title to become a wellness champion for those around you, wherever you are – it’s a role that anyone can embrace. Start by making small, consistent changes in your own life, and watch as your positive influence ripples outward, creating a culture of wellness for all.
