Overview: Pre-Wired E-Houses Provide Ease Of Electrical Deployment

FTI and our Excellerate® division recently completed work in the cryptocurrency mining space with the construction of electrical houses (E-Houses).

This project involved conversion of 40-foot shipping containers into mobile E-Houses, which are pre-wired for plug-and-play deployment on the crypto mining site. The units must be quickly deployable, stand-alone and weatherproof.

Excellerate equipped the units with racks, power distribution, network cabling and heat dissipation for the cryptocurrency mining machines.

  • 2.5MVA, 3 phase, 4 wire, 415/240 VAC service to feed three 1,200A I-LINE mains with 28 250A Powerlink panelboards per container.
  • 588 power and network drops pre-wired at the racks.
  • C19 power cord drops fed from dedicated 20A, single pole, 240-volt circuit breaker; can be controlled remotely or programmed for curtailment.
  • 14 POE network switches support the network drops.
  • 14 48” exhaust fans to pull air through machines and expel hot air. Intake air filtered through 24 weatherproof hoods.
  • 3” thick insulated roof with epoxy coating to provide additional weather/temperature protection.

Challenges: Rapid Need For High Density Power

The biggest challenges for this project were the expedited timeframe and the high density of utilization required in these modular units.

Solution: Quickly Deployable E-House Power

Excellerate manufactured the cryptocurrency mining E-Houses to the required plug-and-play specifications. Once deployed on site, the customer was able to install their cryptocurrency mining machines onto the shelves and plug them into the power supply.
