Overview: Expansion At A Large Healthcare Campus

FTI was an integral partner on a critical healthcare project in the Kansas City region. The project involved building a new radiation therapy facility on the campus of a large medical center.

FTI was selected as the electrical contractor for this project due to our extensive experience in the healthcare arena. The modular manufacturing capabilities of our Excellerate® division were key to successful project completion.

Challenges: Limited Space, Special Project Requirements

Being constructed on the campus of an active medical facility created extreme space limitations on the project. The nature of the cancer treatment center required it to be built underground, and the site had no space for construction equipment or materials.

Due to the nature of the treatments being conducted, a significant portion of the work took place underground in what would become a concrete vault. There were additional conditions requiring a minimum number of bends in each raceway passing through the concrete walls; this is to ensure the radiation remains contained in the designated location.

Solution: Offsite Build Of Electrical Assemblies

Through FTI’s Excellerate facility, we were able to completely build the complex electrical assemblies in our controlled manufacturing environment. The units were delivered to the site and dropped into place on a just-in-time, ready-to-install basis. In addition to meeting the site logistics requirements, this type of modular, repeatable manufacturing also supports the highest safety, as well as improved quality and schedule.
